El proyecto Gráfica de protesta. Memoria visual de la lucha estudiantil costarricense contemporánea y el Museo de las Mujeres han establecido una colaboración para organizar la exposición virtual “¡Se va a caer! (El malestar en el patriarcado). Rayados universitarios contra la violencia de género”.
Esta exposición tiene como objetivo conmemorar activamente el Día Internacional contra la Violencia de Género 2021, mediante la exhibición virtual de una serie de pintas realizadas por mujeres universitarias costarricenses durante las protestas y tomas de edificios acontecidas en el año 2019.
La muestra es asimismo un ejercicio de memoria de la movilización estudiantil feminista, pues esos rayados fueron borrados por decisión de las autoridades universitarias. Así, rememoramos las enfáticas denuncias contra la violencia patriarcal y la afirmación del derecho de las mujeres a decidir de manera autónoma sobre sus cuerpos y vidas.

The Project Graphic of Protest. Visual Memory of the Contemporary Costa Rican Students Struggle and the Museum of Women have established a collaboration to organize the virtual exhibition IT'S GOING TO FALL! (THE DISORDER IN THE PATRIARCHY). STUDENT GRAFFITI AGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE.
This virtual exhibition seeks to commemorate the International Day Against Gender Violence 2021, publicizing a series of graffiti made by Costa Rican university students during the protests and occupation of buildings that took place in 2019.
The exhibition is also an exercise in memory of the feminist student mobilization, since those lines were erased by decision of the university authorities. Thus, we recall the emphatic denunciations against patriarchal violence and the affirmation of the right of all women to decide autonomously about their bodies and lives.
EL CONTEXTO - THE CONTEXT
Costa Rica, octubre de 2019 - Costa Rica, October, 2019:
Personas estudiantes de la UCR y la UNA, se movilizaron contra los recortes y redireccionamientos al presupuesto Universitario, originados en la reforma fiscal regresiva de 2018.
Les estudiantes tomaron varios edificios universitarios en oposición a las intenciones del gobierno y en protesta por la manera en que las autoridades del Consejo Nacional de Rectores (CONARE) negociaron el Fondo Especial para la Educación Superior Pública (FEES).
Las “tomas”–método tradicional de lucha estudiantil- se caracterizaron por una organización horizontal, pluralista y deliberativa.
El movimiento fue plural en cuanto a ideologías, demandas y reivindicaciones, formas de acción y expresión.
Les estudiantes establecieron espacios temporalmente liberados, para la convivencia comunitaria, la deliberación política y la libre expresión de sus malestares y anhelos.
Students from state universities mobilized against cuts and reorientations to the university budget, originated in the regressive tax reform of 2018.
The students occupied several university buildings in opposition to the government's intentions and in protest against the way in which the authorities of the National Council of Rectors (CONARE) negotiated the Special Fund for Public Higher Education (FEES).
The "tomas" (building occupation) - traditional method of student struggle - were characterized by a horizontal, pluralistic and deliberative organization.
The movement was plural in terms of ideologies, demands, and forms of action and expression.
The students established temporarily liberated spaces for community coexistence, political deliberation and the free expression of their discomforts and desires.
La causa primera fue la defensa de la educación pública como un derecho contra: las restricciones presupuestarias y los ataques a la autonomía universitaria.
También fue una defensa de: el modelo humanista de universidad, el compromiso de la U con las comunidades, una U más democrática, la regionalización universitaria efectiva, una U con justicia laboral y salarial interna.
Un grito por: una vida digna la equidad de género los derechos sexuales el medioambiente y la naturaleza la libertad de expresión la memoria histórica . . .
Fue por tanto una expresión del MALESTAR EN EL NEOLIBERALISMO.
The first cause was the defense of public education as a right against budget restrictions and attacks on university autonomy.
It was also a defense of: the humanist model of the university, the university commitment to the communities, a more democratic university, effective university regionalization, a university with labor and salary justice.
A cry for: a decent and safe life, sexual rights, the protection of environment and nature, freedom of expression, historical memory. . .
It was therefore an expression of DISCOMFORT IN NEOLIBERALISM.
Pero también, una expresión de indignación contra la violencia de género y en general contra EL MALESTAR EN EL PATRIARCADO.
Las protagonistas de esta protesta contra la violencia patriarcal, que las mujeres experimentan cotidianamente en la sociedad costarricense y en los ambientes universitarios, plasmaron sus denuncias y reivindicaciones sobre los muros de los edificios ocupados.
But also, it was an expression of indignation against gender violence and in general against THE MALAISE IN THE PATRIARCHY.
The protagonists of this protest against patriarchal violence, which women experience daily in Costa Rican society and in university settings, expressed their complaints and claims on the walls of occupied buildings.
LA EXPOSICION
La exposición “¡SE VA A CAER! (RAYADOS ESTUDIANTILES CONTRA LA VIOLENCIA DE GÉNERO)” tiene como propósito dar a conocer entre un público amplio las expresiones de ese malestar universitario contra el patriarcado.
Se ha seleccionado una muestra de los cientos de rayados estampados en los muros de los edificios intervenidos, los cuales han sido organizados en las siguientes temáticas:
I. Denuncias de violencia de género
II. Expresiones contra el femicidio
III. Reivindicación de la autonomía
IV. Derecho al aborto
V. Celebraciones de la sororidad
VI. Llamados a la acción.
THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition “IT'S GOING TO FALL! (STUDENT'S GRAFFITI AGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE)” aims to make known among a wide public the expressions of that university malaise against patriarchy.
A sample of the hundreds of scratches stamped on the walls of the intervened buildings has been selected, which have been organized into the following themes:
I. Complaints of gender violence
II. Expressions against femicide
III. Claiming autonomy
IV. Right to abortion
V. Celebrations of sisterhood
VI. Calls to action.
I. Denuncias de violencia de género
Esta sección incluye rayados que denuncian la misoginia, el machismo, el acoso, la violación y otras formas de violencia –explícita o encubierta- de género, incluidas la indiferencia y el encubrimiento de las personas agresoras por parte de las autoridades y la misma comunidad académica.
I. Complaints of gender violence
This section includes expressions that denounce misogyny, machismo, harassment, rape and other forms of violence - explicit or covert - of gender, including indifference and cover-up of the aggressors by the authorities and the academic community itself.

II. Expresiones contra el femicidio
Estos rayados denuncian las formas más extremas de la violencia patriarcal, como de una manifestación de solidaridad de género con las mujeres que “nos faltan” y sus familias.
II. Expressions against femicide
These graffiti denounce the most extreme forms of patriarchal violence, and manifest gender solidarity with the women who are missing (“nos faltan”) and their families.

III. Reivindicación de la autonomía
Rayados que reivindican la autonomía sobre sus cuerpos y el derecho a tomar decisiones propias en todos los ámbitos de la vida.

These graffiti claim women's autonomy over their bodies and the right to make their own decisions in all areas of life.

IV. Derecho al aborto
La reivindicación del derecho al aborto –libre, seguro y gratuito-, tiene un lugar destacado entre las exigencias de autonomía y el derecho a decidir sobre el propio cuerpo.

Las denuncias, reivindicaciones y celebraciones presentadas en las secciones anteriores encuentran un necesario llamado a la acción. Esta sección presenta un conjunto de pintas que convocan a la movilización de las mujeres universitarias y personas aliadas para la lucha feminista.

The complaints, claims and celebrations presented in the previous sections find a necessary call to action. This section presents a set of paintings that call for the mobilization of university women and allied people for the feminist struggle.
