OLGA ESPINACH FERNÁNDEZ
Olga Espinach Fernández, nació el 21 de mayo de 1918. Desde muy joven, tuvo inclinación por las artes: teatro, danza, modelaje, y artes plásticas. En su actividad teatral, fungió como actriz, maquilladora, diseñadora de vestuario, decoradora. La actividad teatral se refuerza con la llegada del artista Lucio Ranucci con quien fundó el Teatro Experimental de la Casa del Artista en 1952, también fundan el Teatro de la Prensa, el Teatro de las Máscaras y el Arlequín también fueron los escenógrafos para la inauguración del canal 7. Otra actividad importante en la vida de doña Olga fue el periodismo, cuyos estudios realizó en Nueva Orleans, Estados Unidos, profesión ejercida desde muy joven mediante la publicación en medios locales, cuando inicia labores el periódico La Nación en 1946, se hace cargo de la redacción de la sección de sociales y de artes, y publica el primer suplemento, con el nombre de Movimiento Artístico Nacional, además trabaja en el Diario de Costa Rica, La Prensa Libre, la República y publica en Mundo Femenino y Mujer y Hogar, también fundó el periódico Siglo XX, como medio de difusión de la Casa del Artista y del arte mundial, con el producto de la venta le daba ayuda-beca, a los estudiantes que no tenían recursos para ir a clases. La pasión más grande e importante en la vida de doña Olga, fue la pintura. Entre 1945 y 1947 estudia en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de la Universidad de Costa Rica. Y entre 1949 y 1951, en la Liga de Estudiantes de Artes, en Nueva York, EE.UU, su obra plástica se caracterizó por la abstracción siendo una de las primeras artistas costarricense en trabajar este estilo en la década de los cuarenta.
Como gestora y promotora cultural, creó la Galería del Artista en Cuesta de Moras en la década de los cincuenta, en donde expusieron destacados artistas costarricenses, y lo más relevante, la creación del Taller de Arte libre con los niños pregoneros de la Nación en 1946. El trabajo con los niños de la Nación, significó para doña Olga, el inicio de un proyecto social humanitario y solidario, que le dio las bases para consolidarlo como la Casa del Artista a partir de 1951, sus ideas, su filosofía, el significado de trabajar por y para Costa Rica, refuerzan
su inquebrantable voluntad para luchar por sus ideales, pues pensaba que era una obligación moral y ética trabajar por el bien de los más necesitados, y sostenía que ella no fundó la Casa del Artista para ella, sino para el pueblo, y en especial por los niños pobres pues decía, ellos siempre van a estar ahí, aún en la actualidad.
Doña Olga fue para miles de personas, una guía, una maestra, consejera y el apoyo para todos los que de una u otra manera llegamos a tocar la puerta de su casa, para ella no importaron
los sacrificios o los problemas siempre extendió una mano, un abrazo para protegernos y guiarnos a través del arte por el camino correcto.

Olga Espinach Fernández, was born on May 21, 1918. From a young age, she had an inclination for the arts: theater, dance, modeling, and plastic arts. In her theatrical activity, she worked as a makeup artist, a costume designer. The theatrical activity is reinforced with the arrival of the artist Lucio Ranucci with whom he founded the Experimental Theater of the Artist's House in 1952, also founded the Theater of the Press, the Theater of the Masks and the Harlequin were also the set designers for the inauguration of the channel 7. Another important activity in the life of Mrs. Olga was journalism, whose studies she carried out in New Orleans, United States, a profession practiced from a young age through publication in local media, when La Nación newspaper began work in 1946, He is in charge of the writing of the social and arts section, and publishes the first supplement, with the name of the National Artistic Movement, also works in the Diario de Costa Rica, La Prensa Libre, la República and publishes in Mundo Femenino y Mujer and Hogar, he also founded the Siglo XX newspaper, as a means of dissemination of the House of the Artist and world art, with the proceeds of the sale he gave scholarship assistance, to the students before they had no resources to go to class. The greatest and most important passion in the life of Dona Olga, was painting. Between 1945 and 1947 he studied at the School of Plastic Arts of the University of Costa Rica. And between 1949 and 1951, in the League of Arts Students, in New York, USA, his plastic work was characterized by abstraction being one of the first Costa Rican artists to work this style in the forties.
As a manager and cultural promoter, she created the Artist Gallery in Cuesta de Moras in the 1950s, where outstanding Costa Rican artists exhibited, and most importantly, the creation of the Free Art Workshop with the pregonero children of the Nation in 1946, The work with the children of the Nation, meant for Mrs. Olga, the beginning of a humanitarian and solidarity social project, which gave her the basis to consolidate it as the Artist's House from 1951, her ideas, her philosophy, the meaning of work for and for Costa Rica, reinforce
her unwavering will to fight for her ideals, because she thought it was a moral and ethical obligation to work for the good of the needy, and maintained that she did not found the Artist's House for her, but for the people, and especially for the people Poor children, he said, they will always be there, even today.
Doña Olga was for thousands of people, a guide, a teacher, counselor and support for all who in one way or another came to knock on the door of her house, for her they did not matter
sacrifices or problems always extended a hand, a hug to protect us and guide us through art the right way.
