Da unten. Por Marga Steinwasser
Marga Steinwasser no solo trabaja en su taller, también es una artista nómade: viaja por distintos pueblos y ciudades y crea junto a la comunidad. Hace años que su obra se centra en los derechos humanos y en la química de la memoria.
Utiliza “trapos” para rescatar recuerdos, tanto ajenos como propios, pero su quehacer no se limita a lo textil. La interacción con el público está siempre presente, sus producciones son disparadores.
Marga Steinwasser también es traductora. Desde su infancia habla “argentino” (su idioma natal), alemán (su lengua materna) e inglés. A pesar de tantas palabras aprendidas en el diccionario familiar, no había ninguna que nombrara a “cierta parte de su cuerpo”. Su mamá le decía “da unten” (allá abajo) y aún hoy le siguen diciendo así algunos miembros de su familia.
Tras realizar numerosas obras, la artista encontró el momento de reflexionar sobre “esas partes”, empezar a nombrarlas, darse el permiso de decir vulva, clítoris, labios y encontrar en estas palabras otro de los derechos humanos: el derecho al goce.
“Da unten” consta de 35 pequeños dibujos que forman una sola obra. Hablan de la anatomía, de las relaciones entre los cuerpos, de eufemismos de flores y frutas, de hojas que simbolizan o tapan. Decenas de detalles donde podemos detenernos a mirar y reflexionar. El conjunto se complementa con un cuestionario acerca de la educación sexual de las espectadoras, creando un puente entre la artista y quien responde, un puente que propicia un diálogo íntimo.

Marga Steinwasser not only works in her workshop, she is also a nomadic artist: she travels through different towns and cities and creates together with the community. For years her work has focused on human rights and the chemistry of memory.
She uses "rags" to rescue memories, both foreign and her own, but her work is not limited to textiles. Her interaction with the public is always present, her productions are triggers.
Marga Steinwasser is also a translator. Since childhood she speaks "Argentine" (her native language), German (her mother tongue) and English. Despite so many words learned in her family dictionary, there weren't any that named her “certain part of her body”. Her mother used to tell her “da unten” (down there) and even today some members of her family continue to say that to her.
After making numerous works, the artist found the time to reflect on "those parts", begin to name them, give herself permission to say vulva, clitoris, lips and find in these words another human right: the right to enjoyment.
“Da unten” consists of 35 small drawings that form a single work. They speak of anatomy, of the relationships between bodies, of euphemisms for flowers and fruits, of leaves that symbolize or cover. Dozens of details where we can stop to look and reflect. The set is complemented by a questionnaire about the sexual education of the spectators, creating a bridge between the artist and the respondent, a bridge that encourages an intimate dialogue.

Biografía de Marga Steinwasser
Nació y vive en Buenos Aires. Se formó en distintos talleres, también en el área de estética y cursó materias de Antropología en la Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires. Su obra gira en torno a la temática de la memoria individual y colectiva y los derechos humanos. Se expresa a través de distintas técnicas y formas, entre otras, grabado, dibujo, arte textil, instalaciones y performances. Sus proyectos muchas veces involucran a profesionales de distintas áreas, tales como historiadores, antropólogos y psicólogos. Participó en numerosas muestras individuales y colectivas tanto en la Argentina como en Chile, Uruguay, Reino Unido y la República Federal de Alemania.

She was born and lives in Buenos Aires. She was trained in different workshops, also in the area of aesthetics and studied Anthropology at the National University of Buenos Aires. Her work revolves around the theme of individual and collective memory and human rights. She expresses herself through different techniques and forms, among others, engraving, drawing, textile art, installations and performances. Her projects often involve professionals from different areas, such as historians, anthropologists and psychologists. She participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions in Argentina as well as in Chile, Uruguay, the United Kingdom and the Federal Republic of Germany.
