Traje humano por Man Yu
TH, Traje Humano es una propuesta artística que profundiza en la dualidad de lo tangible y lo intangible, lo visible y lo invisible, lo físico y lo inmaterial, del ser humano. A través de expresiones artísticas multidisciplinarias, pintura, escultura, instalación, video, diseño, Man Yu y sus artistas invitados reflejan el intento histórico de la humanidad por comprobar sus abstractas verdades, sus almas, con la efimeridad de sus creaciones, a sabiendas de que lo esencial no puede ser comprobado por sí mismo sin intervenciones físicas que busquen prolongar, descifrar, cada partícula de su caducable materialización repleta de realidades sin respuesta a la interrogante que se repite insistentemente en cada una de las obras: “¿Qué somos?”.
La primera obra de la colección fue realizada en 1987. ManYu, sumergida en esta prematura reflexión materializó por primera vez esteconcepto tan denso y abstracto cuando tenía apenas 9 años de edad. Sin embargo,no fue sino hasta el año 2013 cuando Man Yu sintió el llamado para ahondar de nuevo en esta recurrenteinterrogante y poder revelarla a través de su pincel. El primer traje humano sepintó como un impotente desahogo, pero las demás obras son el trabajo detransformar esta catarsis en poesía y comunicación.
Human Suit by Man Yu
TH, Human Suit is an artistic proposal that delves into the duality of the tangible and the intangible, the visible and the invisible, the physical and the immaterial, of the human being. Through multidisciplinary artistic expressions, painting, sculpture, installation, video, design, Man Yu and his invited artists reflect the historical attempt of humanity to verify their abstract truths, their souls, with the ephemerality of their creations, knowing that the essential can not be verified by itself without physical interventions that seek to prolong, decipher, each particle of its obsolete materialization replete with realities without answer to the question that is repeated insistently in each of the works: "What are we?".
The first work in the collection was executed in 1987. Man Yu, immersed in this premature reflection, materialized for the first time this dense and abstract concept when she was only 9 years old. However, it was not until 2013 when Man Yu felt the call to delve again into this recurrent question and answer it through her brush. The first human suit was painted as an impotent relief, but the subsequent artworks are the work of transforming this catharsis into poetry and communication.

This disturbing work is my 1st Human Costume. I painted it when I was 9 years old: In the dark corner of a room, my heavy adult skin (denouncing harsh experiences lived not according to my age and identity) hanging on a clothes hook next to a wooden crib, and Above her, lies my invisible and vulnerable being.
Esta propuesta artística fue el objeto principal delCircuito Traje Humano en el que se exhibieron las obras pictóricas de Man Yu deTraje Humano pero que, lejos de ser únicamente una exposición individual, haagrupado también propuestas de más artistas de diferentes disciplinas quienes,inspirados en el mensaje central, se han sumado a promover la introspecciónsobre nuestra existencia más allá de la piel.
Así, el proyecto multidisciplinario de la artistaMan Yu se inauguró el 1 de noviembre del año pasado en Galería Nacional, dondese celebró a lo grande el inicio oficial del circuito con 5 talentosos artistasinvitados. Diego Esquivel, ganador del 1er lugar del 2016 en el Festival Glowen Italia, presentó su propuesta de videomapping con un abordaje tecnoético delconcepto. Helen Núñez y Julián García, reconocidos por las finas produccionesde fashionfilms del Mercedes BenzFashion Week, y Vernny Argüello, el talento detrás de los cautivantes videos deEsencial Costa Rica, presentaron cortometrajes que abordaron el aspecto socialde Traje Humano. Por último, Laura Barquero, reconocida cara del elenco delpopular musical tico, Cabaret, presentó su mejor versión de la Ópera de Handel,Lascio Ch'io Pianga, usada por Man Yua la hora de pintar las obras de la exposición.
En Galería Nacional, también se presentó el sinigualdesfile de modas El Clóset Humano, en el cual se estrenaron 40 outfits creadospor 11 diseñadoras de modas de la Universidad Creativa dirigidas por RobChamaeleo, inspiradas en el mensaje, concepto y simbolismo de Traje Humano. Ala pasarela asistieron los más populares influencersde moda ticos, destacadas personas del mundo del fashion costarricense, así como los fotógrafos más reconocidos dela escena. Incluso hasta la famosa rapera estadounidense Brooke Candy estuvo enla primera fila del desfile. Además de las diseñadoras, se sumaron 2 talentososartistas invitados, Cristian Esquivel y Nía Madrigal, quienes entremezclaronintrospectivos performances de danza contemporánea, inspirados en el existencialismode Traje Humano, en medio de los diseños.
Posteriormente, en enero 2019, Traje Humano abrió enel Museo Municipal de Cartago con todas las obras pictóricas, el videomapping,los cortometrajes y los performances presentados en Galería Nacional, llevandola propuesta espiritual (detrás de los desnudos) al público cartaginés, quienacogió con gran apertura el mensaje de las obras.
En abril y mayo, se llevó simultáneamente en elCentro Cultural de España y el Centro de las Artes del TEC. Mientras en el TECse exhibieron las obras pictóricas de Man Yu, en el Farolito se inauguró lamuestra “Trajines”. Ésta se centró enla profundización de las diferentes vivencias, cotidianidades, perspectivas,historias, experiencias que las personas desarrollan de manera involuntaria ycondicionada a su traje humano, su piel. A manera de juego de palabras, lamuestra fue llamada “Trajines”, haciendo referencia a las casualidades ycausalidades de la vida y ajetreos ‒significado de la palabra trajín‒ que vandejando huella en las personas, al mismo tiempo que se expresa como diminutivode la palabra “traje”. En esta exposición, Ale Rambar (artista que diseñó elPremio por la Igualdad de Género de la Unión Europea), Ángel Lara (escultordiseñador de los premios nacionales de cultura), Juan José Durán y AndrésValverde (mentes creativas de la revista Traffic) se sumaron a la planilla deartistas de Traje Humano.
Posteriormente, enjunio, la colección pictórica de Man Yu viajó a China como la representaciónoficial costarricense en el 6to Festival de Arte Latinoamericano y del Caribeen Beijing, para exponerse en el Museo de Arte Mundial de Beijing, como unasede más del Circuito Traje Humano.
Así, esta exposición virtual en el Museo de las Mujeres se suma al Circuito para ofrecer las obras de manera virtual y llegar más allá con la propuesta, de forma que, como expresa Man Yu “las personas que salgan de los salones expositivos no sean las mismas que fueron al entrar a ellos”.
This artistic proposal was the main object of theHuman Suit Circuit in which the Man Yu paintings of Human Suit were exhibitedbut, far from being only an individual exhibition, it has also groupedproposals of more artists from different disciplines who, inspired by thecentral message, have added to promote introspection about our existence beyondthe skin.
Thus, the multidisciplinary project of the artistMan Yu was inaugurated on November 1 of last year in National Gallery, wherethe official start of the circuit with 5 talented invited artists wascelebrated in a big way. Diego Esquivel, winner of the 1st place of 2016 at theGlow Festival in Italy, presented his proposal of videomapping with atechno-technical approach to the concept. Helen Núñez and Julián García,recognized for the fine fashionfilms productions of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week,and Vernny Argüello, the talent behind the captivating videos of Esencial CostaRica, presented short films that addressed the social aspect of Human Suit.Finally, Laura Barquero, recognized face of the cast of the popular ticomusical, Cabaret, presented her best version of Handel's Opera, Lascio Ch'ioPianga, used by Man Yu when painting the works of the exhibition.
In National Gallery, also presented the peerlessfashion show The Human Closet, in which 40 outfits created by 11 fashiondesigners of the Creative University directed by Rob Chamaeleo, inspired by themessage, concept and symbolism of Human Suit were released. The most popularinfluencers of Ticos fashion, prominent people of the Costa Rican fashionworld, as well as the most recognized photographers of the scene attended thecatwalk. Even the famous American rapper Brooke Candy was in the front row ofthe parade. In addition to the designers, there were 2 talented guest artists,Cristian Esquivel and Nía Madrigal, who interspersed introspective contemporarydance performances, inspired by the existentialism of Human Suits, in themiddle of the designs.
Subsequently, in January 2019, Human Suit opened inthe Municipal Museum of Cartago with all the pictorial works, videomapping,short films and performances presented in National Gallery, bringing thespiritual proposal (behind the nudes) to the Carthaginian public, who welcomedwith great openness the message of the works.
In April and May, it was simultaneously held at theCultural Center of Spain and the TEC Arts Center. While the TEC exhibited ManYu's paintings, at the Farolito the "Trajines" exhibition wasinaugurated. This focused on the deepening of the different experiences, dailylife, perspectives, stories, experiences that people develop involuntarily andconditioned to their human Suit, their skin. As a game of words, the show wascalled "Trajines", referring to the coincidences and causalities oflife and bustle -meaning of the word trajín- that leave their mark on people,at the same time that it is expressed as diminutive of the word "Suit".In this exhibition, Ale Rambar (artist who designed the Award for GenderEquality of the European Union), Ángel Lara (sculptor designer of the nationalculture awards), Juan José Durán and Andrés Valverde (creative minds of Trafficmagazine) they added themselves to the list of artists of Human Suit.
Later, in June, Man Yu's painting series traveled toChina as the official Costa Rican representation at the 6th Latin American andCaribbean Art Festival in Beijing, to be exhibited at the Beijing World ArtMuseum, as another venue for the Human Suit Circuit.
Thus, this virtual exhibition at the Women's Museum joins the Circuit to offer the works in a virtual way and go further with the proposal, so that, as Man Yu expresses, "the people who leave the exhibition halls are not the same as they were when entering them".
On August 30, 2019 the last work of the Human Costume circuit was carried out. It was the most relevant artistic performance / happening of the moment, “I am not this suit” in which around 100 naked people interpreted the stigmas and social conditioning of the trajines that each person lives with their human costumes. The unprecedented performance was the public artistic nude of the Central American region.
This event aimed to close the exhibition circuit with which Man Yu extended the philosophical and social concept of his Human Costume collection in a series of pictorial works, installations, performances, videoarts, videomapping, fashion show and other disciplines, through his works and through his guest artists.
