"And where are the women?" by Elizabeth Ross

Apuntes sobre un proyecto artístico procesual participativo de investigación, acción y producción sobre las mujeres y su movilidad territorial, temporal y sicológica.

Este es un proyecto que se desarrolla entre México y Europa, particularmente España, pero que no tiene límite o frontera. Trata de experiencias personales que desenmascaran políticas de género y extranjería. De racismo y xenofobia, de desigualdad y resistencia.Trata de la mujer y su viaje por territorios geográficos y culturales, mentales, temporales y cotidianos, de abandono y recreación de significados.Es sobre el ser o sentirse extranjera y el querer dejar de serlo, o no.De la ilusión de tener una patria y del territorio de la incertidumbre por el que transcurren los días de quienes no pertenecen, no son “propias” sino ajenas con su realidad de homeless, pero guerreras. Mujeres que han dejado atrás su tierra y sus familias en busca de un mejor futuro para quienes se quedan o porque las circunstancias sociopolíticas las expulsaron. Mujeres que son extranjeras dentro de su propia tierra, la sociedad de su entorno, su propia familia. Mujeres que pasan de ser quienes siempre han conocido para devenir otras, outsiders, divididas, y más fuertes. Mujeres que viven el paso del tiempo enfrentando el cambio corporal y los miedos sociales a la vejez.Mutaciones. Injertos, hibridización cultural que a la vez quiebra las raíces de lo que ha sido.Este proyecto es personal y es participativo. Las mujeres que voluntariamente aportan sus experiencias de vida provienen de muchos sitios diferentes, en ellas confluye una problemática compartida y la misma fuerza interna, y ofrecen parte de su poco tiempo libre y su historia a este proyecto. Los pasos dados por las mujeres son sólidos, reales, transformadores tanto de sus vidas como de la sociedad misma, y es más que necesario que el (re) conocimiento de esto se haga público. Visibilizar lo invisible, señalarlo, nombrarlo, empoderarlo.Inició con mi propia migración, mi transnacionalización, mi propio acercamiento a la vejez, y continuará transitando por caminos que seguirán inéditos hasta que no los pise yo. La travesía que realizamos tiene una intención de inicio, mas no sabemos en realidad donde atracará nuestra nave. Notes on a participatory process-based artistic research, action and production project on women and their territorial, temporal and psychological mobility.

This is a project that develops between Mexico and Europe, particularly Spain, but it has no limit or border. It is about personal experiences that unmask gender and immigration policies. Racism and xenophobia, inequality and resistance. It is about women and their journey through geographical and cultural, mental, temporal and daily territories, of abandonment and recreation of meanings. It is about being or feeling foreign and wanting to stop being it, Or not. From the illusion of having a homeland and the territory of uncertainty through which the days of those who do not belong pass, they are not "their own" but alien to their reality of homeless, but warriors. Women who have left their land and their families behind in search of a better future for those who remain or because socio-political circumstances expelled them. Women who live the passage of time facing body change and social fears of old age. Mutations. Grafts, cultural hybridization that at the same time breaks the roots of what has been. This project is personal and participatory. The women who voluntarily contribute their life experiences come from many different places, where a shared problem and the same internal strength converge, and they offer part of their little free time and their history to this project. The steps taken by women are solid, real, transformative both in their lives and in society itself, and it is more than necessary that (re) knowledge of this be made public. Make the invisible visible, point it out, name it, empower it. It started with my own migration, my transnationalization, my own approach to old age, and will continue to travel along paths that will remain unpublished until I step on them. Elizabeth Ross es artista integrante del Sistema Nacional de Creadores Artísticos SNCA con Transvase Territorial, proyecto participativo que explora y documenta diversos terrenos del devenir de las mujeres de la migración y el exilio y del camino hacia el envejecimiento.Nacida un 27 de julio en la Ciudad de México, con sangre astur, mexicana y náhuatl, tiene su primera exposición individual en 1990 y su trabajo se mostró en constante flujo en museos y galerías hasta 2003, cuando decide llevar su obra a la calle para interactuar directamente con el público con instalaciones, axiones rituales, multimedia e intervenciones.Ha participado en numerosos proyectos y exhibiciones , tanto personal como colectivamente alrededor del mundo (de Azerbaiján a Zürich) y sido artista en residencia en Banff Centre for the Arts, Canadá (1999), A Solaina de Piloño, España, (2004), Coed Hills Rural Art Space, Gales, (2005), Kunstmeile Krems, Austria (2006), Guapamacátaro Art and Ecology Residence, México (2007), TAHO TouScene, Noruega(2009), Artpoint GUMNO, Makedonija (2010) Le Temple, Francia, Portakal Çiçegi, Türkiye (2011) y Huber Art Platform en Estepona, España (2014).Ha sido becada por el Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes FONCA en 1996 y 1998, por el Fondo Estatal para la Cultura y las Artes de Michoacán FOESCAM en el 2002, por el Sistema Estatal de Creadores SECREA en 2009. Por el Gobierno de la Baja Austria en 2006 y el Ayuntamiento francés de Bagnols-sur-Céze en 2011. Se le otorgó el Premio José Tocavén al Mérito Artístico, de La Voz de Michoacán y el Premio Mujeres Contemporáneas Yolanda Vargas Purecko Creadora de OutSider, MMX::artistas mexicanas en el 2010 y eyeseverywhere/ojosportodoslados, proyectos colectivizados online, dirige 5célula arte y comunidad AC y 3Multiverse, Asociación Europea para las Artes y Comunidades, asociaciones civiles con las que genera proyectos artísticos a nivel internacional que buscan ampliar los espacios de convergencia entre artistas y comunidades, trabajando mayormente en el espacio público, además de proyectos de inserción de artistas en procesos comunitarios.
